Château de Pennautier

In the heart of the Languedoc, Château de Pennautier, a 17th century historic monument and a family home, opens its doors to you…

Château de Pennautier – History

In 1620, under the reign of Louis XIII, Bernard de Pennautier, Treasurer of the States of Languedoc, laid the first stone of a château which had the privilege of receiving the king in 1622 and is still one of the finest buildings in the region, set just 5 km from the famous town of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi, both UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Strongly inspired by the style of Versailles – a vast palace opening out to a magnificent view – it has been altered on several occasions, in particular when it was extended in 1670 by the architect Le Vau, who was at the same time building the Orangery at Versailles. The grounds, laid out in formal gardens by the landscape designerLe Nôtre, still cover the same 30 hectares as when the château was built.

You can make an appointment to organise a visit to the château :

After fully refurbishing the château’s 2,500m² in 2008, Nicolas and Miren de Lorgeril, the tenth generation of the family, are delighted to welcome you for your seminars, holidays, private functions, weddings, etc.
