Château de Pennautier
Decors & collections
Château de Pennautier has always been occupied and decorated by members of the same family with artifacts (furniture, paintings, tapestries) handed down through generations, leaving witness to French elegance and taste.
In this place, History of Art is told through great painters : Franz Pourbus, Nicolas Tournier, Le Chevalier Volaire, Francesco Foschi, Carlo Labruzzi, Giovanni Ghisolfi, Nicolas de Largillierre, Louis Michel Van Loo, Alexandre Roslin, Jean Raoux, Jean Pierre Houel, Joseph Désiré Cour, etc.
French History is echoing :
17the Century: the visit of Louis XII who donated his furniture after his stay in 1622 ; the support of big companies at the time ; Canal du Midi and the royal manufactures.
18th Century: French alliances with the marriage of Marie-Antoinette and the support of the American War of Independence. These projects were carried by the Duc de Choseul whose collections are in the château ; with progress and openness to the outside world with the memorabilia of the “Grand Tour” made by the Pennautier sons to Italy.
19th Century: Romantic influence with formal English gardens.
20th Century: the rebirth of Languedoc Vineyards.
