Domaine de la Borie Blanche
A remarkable Estate in the heart of a saught-after terroir, 1er Cru of Languedoc
An exceptional Terroir
The Minervois is predominently influenced by the Mediterranean and is like agreat amphiteatre backed by the Black Mountains and facing the south.
At an altitude of 400m, the AOP Minervois – La Livinière (PDO) is a singular terroir comprising chalk and schist. The cool night temperatures allow for slower maturation, which bring on the finesse and elegance of the tannins.
This is a mineral world. Stone is everywhere. Sometimes you can come across a small dry stone hut – this is a “borie”, hence the name of the Estate.
A Singular Story
This is where the Romans developed winemaking. Along the Roman road between Arles and Toulouse, lands were given to worthy centurions who built the famous Roman villas and it was the villa of Calla Vinaria which gave its name to AOP Minervois – La Livinière (PDO).
Nicolas and Miren de Lorgeril first of all bought parcels in 1999, then bought Domaine de Vallière in 2001 and created a new Estate, cleared the high ground, to optimize the exceptional terroirs which were the best schist terroirs in the area.
